MTB. Dimick, Mrs. Ed Delahoyde and Mrs. Hopley were in attendance at the Iowa Woman's Federation of Clubs at Sioux City, last Thursday. Mrs. Dimick and Mrs. Delahoyde represented the Exira Thursday Club and Mrs. Hopley the Treble Clef Club of Exira. The ladies returned home Saturday.

Improving Building

Mr. A. W. Bradley is improvlug his store building by putting up a decorated steel ceiling the full length of the building. Tbe workmen first naila on strips of wood about afoot apart on which they nail the ceiling making an air tight chamber which must necessarily make the building warmer.

His Mistake

"I haven't been in town for some time and by mistake I went into tbe New Store where I was received so pleasantly and treated so good and loyal and everything sold at such reasonably low prices that I could not afford to send away for my goods as I have been doing and after this believe me I'm going to trade at the New Store." The above remarks were overheard on tbe street one day this week being uttered by a well known farmer near Exira.

125Years Old

The oldest women in the world is Mrs. Datkiewicg of Poaen, Germany. She recently., celebrated ber 125th birthday and altho she is bent and feeble, almost blind and deaf* she is not bedridden. She distinctly remembers the Napoleonic Wars and tbe tail of the Little Corporal. She wss married over 90 years ago and has been a widow for more than balf a century. Her descendants number 200 and she has two greatgreat-great-great-grandchildren.

Break For Liberty

The family Jersey cow belonging to Mr. E. C. Wiison made a break for liberty last Sunday while the boy was milking ber. She made a bee line for the tall timber and after running down two horses, three men and a half dozen boys, going through three new woven wire fences, pawing up the gardens of a few neighbors, going through a barn door that was securely fastened, was finally lassoed by Mr. Kroeger, our butcher when she took the hint and returned to bar stall without further ceremony. She bad blood in her eye and so did Henry.

Gone To Denmark

JenB R. CbristenBen so well and favorably known in and about Audubon and Exira, who made such a fine run for County Auditor two years ago, started for bis old home in Vindeballe Aeroskobing Denmark where he will renew old acquaintances and visit tbe scenes of his boyhood, for a few months. Saccharin Valueless'

The recent decision of the U. 8. Department of Agriculture in declaring one of the Chemist's greatest discoveries as of no value is far reaching in its effect.

The use of Saccharin as an economic sweetening agent in thirty or more food products is to be abandoned. Saccharin has been used to sweeten canned corn, peas and potatoes, sarsaparilla, Cream Soda, and other soft beverages champagne and liquors. Its use will be unlawful after July 1,1911. Saccharin has a chemical name, benzoic sulfinide. It is extensively used in households, to sweeten the food of diabetic subjects, an extremely small tablet being equal in sweetness to a large lump of sugar when used in coffee, tea or cocoa. Pure saccharin ia 550 times as sweet as sugar. A sweet taste may be imparted to 70,000 parts of water.— Albert H. Worth B. S., In Scientic American May 20th.
