The Modern Wocdmen of America Lodge met in a body Sunday at their hall and marched to the cemetery to decorate the graveB of their dead mem bers. A sermon was preached in the morning in the M. E. Church by Rev. J. H. Freedline.

Wm. Cloughly arrived in the oity Thursday. He says that Mrs. Cloughly stopped at Ute with her Bister. They have been in California for several months and they are both well and Mre. Cloughly is greatly improved in health. They will go to Canada very shortly where Mr. Cloughly has large interests.

Miss Georgie Lloyd who has been teaching school here, went to Des Moines Saturday to visit and then will go to her home in Brighton to Bpend her vacation with her mother. Her grandmother, Mrs. M. Brown accompanied ber to Brighton where she will spend the snmmer with her daughter. Mrs. W. R. Green and daughter, Margaret went as far as Atlantic with them, returning home Saturday.

Dr. Charles Burnside of Des Moines arrived Tuesday to visit his parents. L. D. Phelps and daughter, Clara went to Vermont Tuesday to spend the summer with relatives.

Miss Katie Petsrson who has been working at the home of W. R. Green, went to Ross today to see her brother who is coming from Emmet, Kansas to visit her.

The Commencement Exercises were held Friday evening at the Presbyterian Church. Prof. Thomas McBrideof Iowa City gave the address and J. M. Graham, President of the School Board presented the diplomas.

Wm. H. Neff Dead

Wm. II. Neff, a well known long time resident of Audubon, died at his home Tuesday trom an attack of apoplexy from which he had been suffering for about two week. Obituary next week.

Fern Lloyd Dead

tern, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Lloyd died at the home of his parents May 30. He was taken ill wi an attack of rheumatism early this spring hut seemed to be recovering. He took a backset and after lingering for some time suddenly died, the ailment having gone to his heart. He waB an exceptionally strong boy until he was taken sick with his final illness. He would have been nine years old in a few days and was born in this county and lived here during his short life. The funeral was held in the M. E. Church Tharsday morning conducted by Rev. J. H. Freedline and the body was laid to rest in the Maple Grove Cemetery. The bereaved parents, bjothers and sisters have the sympathy of the community.

Word reached Gray last week that Mr. and Mrs. Will Barger were the parents of twins, a boy and a girl. The boy died a few hours after its birth.

Milton Orow is in Co. Bluffs at the Edmundson hospital where he is receiving tieatment for stomach trouble. We hope he may be permanently cured while on his sojourn there.

Greeting to tbe Teachers Of Audubon County

On 1 lie lSJtli day of next June the teachers of Audubon County will again assemble in the capacity of a Normal Institute.

Object Of Normal Institutes

The importance of the Normal Institute as a part of our school system cannot easily be overestimated. To many teachers it is the only school in which they can get any training in the best means of discipline and the mostapproved methods of instruction. To many others it is the only place in which they can go annually for new draughts of inspiration and enthusiasm to refresh themselves for another year's work.

The most important thing to be done in an institute is not to impart information that will assist in securing a certificate nor alone to drill in the latest and best methods of teaching, but to inspire the lifeless, strengthen the weak, encourage the discouraged, and elevate the teacher's ideals of their work and life.

Institute Attendance

The intent of the new law seems to be that all teachers shall attend the Institute, and to enforce this provis ion the County Superintendent is required to furnish to the State Superintendent the names of all persons who attend together with a statement of the number of day's attendance.

We would say to a few teachers of the County that it will be impossible for you to receive renewal of certificate unless you are extremely oautious in the future of your attendance and professional reading. We have certainly been lenient, but we cannot bring ourselves to certify to a false statement in your behalf. Don't disregard the old saying "A word to the wise is sufficient." Even the scarcity of teachers will not "save the day." We hope to see you in attendance. It will help you, it will help us. You need us, we need you. •"'!*.«

Arrangemenypinstitute Work

Institute proper will begin Monday, June 19th and continue until Saturday afternoon. Monday and Tuesday of the second week will be devoted entirely to review preparatory to examination. This is a special arrangement for those taking the examination.

Enrollment

Enrollment will begin Saturday, June 17th at Co. Superintendent's office. Those entering later will enroll Monday, June 19th at 4 p. m. at High School building. Should you arrive at the building during the day of June 19th, find a program and enter any class you wish.

Institute Faculty

We believe we are prepared to give as good an institute as has ever been held in the County. Our faculty is composed of people of experience who are adapted to their line of work and who are capable of making the session profitable to us, and through us to the schools of the County, if we do our part.

Lectures

Provisions have been made for se veral lectures. Subjects will be announced later. Some of these lectures will be illustrated.

Rural Graduates tad School Director's Day.

The graduating exercises for Eighth Grade pupils will be held Saturday June 24th. We shall be pleased to see all the graduates present with their parents and friends. Colors for the Class of 1911 are White and Pale-blue,

We also call this Director's Day The program will be arranged with that in view. This is a busy time for farmers but we hope to have as many School officers with us on that day as can conveniently come.

Special Work

Prof. Conger's illustrated lectures on Physiography as a background of American history will undoubtedly prove an inspiration to teachers and give them a new point of view in the teaching of Geography.

Miss McClure will give some very valuable work for the teacher in water-color work. Children naturally delight in the use of pencil and paintbrush and do not hesitate to draw anything from a locomotive to a scene in fairy-land.

When Admitted Under Age To Examination.

Candidates who are under age will receive no report of the examination nor will their answer papers be returned. Should one under age be admitted to any examination, the fee collected from such a candidate should be refunded.

If writing in the June or July examination, the eighteenth birthday must be reached by the first of the next November.

Little Fern Loyd died at his home in Melville township May SOth. He has been ailing for about 2 months. He was 8 years, 10 months and 10 days. He was always a cheerlal kind-hearted little fellow liked by all who knew him. He leaves tomourn bis death one sister, tour brothers, a father and mother. Tbe funeral service was held at the M. S.
