Diana Bollingtlr and Carol Williams gave a small skit a "Little Black Ridinghood " We also had a contest in which the boys competed against the girls. It v. as "Table Setting for Christmas” and believe it or not. the boys won A safety play was given called "Safety in the Home" in which every member of our class took part. We acted out a poem called "Washingio.k hi winch 12 pupils participated. During 'he "Share the Fun" con test . there were two entries from our room: Carol Williams who won first place, and Beverly Noble, who won second Diana Bollinger was our partici pant in the sis -eh contr a with a fine talk entuied "Speak Up for Freedom." winning the speaking contest in 1956. F R. Rudershausen came to our room and gave us a very interest go drinonstrnl:on He explained how a piece of coal can be changed into electricity. With the help of a scale model, we saw how many people really contribute to the mod ern comforts we have in. our homes today. We gave several demonstrations.
One by Carter Norton and Glenna Blankenship showed how we use the right lighting for our homework. Another, by Gary White explained how an electric motor works. Ger ald Driver showed us that it is dan gerous to replace a burnt fuse with a penny. Wayne Clayton explained the magic of our electric switch. Bruce Flippen and David Munden showed us how to repair a worn electric cord and attach the plug to it again. The meeting closed with a short sketch, entitled “Pocahontas.'' We are looking forward, as always, to our next 4-H Club meeting.

Powhalan Red Cross Drive Coes Over Top Powhatan county's Red Cross ({rive went over the top in 1957. for the second consecutive year under the chairmanship of Sam Parker. Collections totalled $1,224.05, against a goal of $1,156. In 1956. collections were $1,108. Mrs Rosa L. Martin and James Venable were co-chairmen of the campaign, with about 40 workers. Bands, J-H Floats To Wind Way in 7-County Parade Bands, mardhing r o u p b anti. floats, all w >b a 4-H theme, will . n in Chase City, when Amelia and Pow hatan county 4 H'ers enter the f ‘ven-county 4-H parade. Both the Amelia ant! Powhatan ; h.i.h school bands will march, as will bands from Brunswick, Pat View and Blue-stone. A banner will i precede each county section, and | all of tin -t-H club members in the; countv will walk behind it. Behind the marchers will come t trayihg 4JH club ; t activities. All tot the floats are to j be built with the help of club mem-1 bers, with a cost of materials not; to exceed $25. Amelia plans to enter; seven such floats. Nearly 75 will be entered. A king and queen will be se lected from the princes and prin ce: ses nominated by each of the counties on a basis of 4-H leadership and records. A crowd of between 15.000 and 20.000 persons is expected to watch the parade. The first parade was held in Nottoway m 1054, and in 1955. six counties participated in the 1950 parade, held at Blackstone.

On their return to Powhatan the party consumed seme seven dozen weiners and drinks. The Powhatan High School band is completing plans to visit Wash ington on May 15 and 1G.
