C lowns, Tarapeze Artists, Animals Make Circus Grounds Big Tent City

Trumpeting bands, tooting calli-' cpes and lumbering elephants took; possession of the Five County Fair Grounds where the Clyde Beatty! Circus is exhibiting this afternoon ' and tonight Thursday. The circus reached town ea’ly Thursday and soon the grounds be- j (ame a hustling and bustling city ! of tents Towering center poles; msed their way into the air: heavy baggage wagons were shunted about , the grounds by the elephants. IT fore noon all of the score of; tents were raised: the smallest tent, used for the circus barber: the largest a huge arenic spread of canvas with seats for 5,000 Alto gether 22 tents are used to house the circus. 150 Performers This is the first appearance of the Clyde Beatty Circus in 10 years of

-he show in the East having traveled Dr.ncipally in the Western States. There are 600 people with the show including 150 performers. These have been recruited from 12 foreign countries. Upwards of 200 wild ani mals are carried along with 15 ele phants. Before the doors to afternoon per formance were opened, the side shows did a brisk business. A long ;iip of banners pictured in words and brush the wonders to be seen on the inside. Clyde Beatty in person heads the list of high lights on the big show program. He will be seen In the big cage battling 40 lions and tigers. The Zoppe troupe of six European bareback riders will be seen along with Alfredo who turns a backward somersault from one running horse to another.

The ClyfT Beatty Circus is ap pearing under the auspieces of the Parniville Lions Club. Shortly after midnight the circus will be cn route to Petersburg where it will exhibit Friday.
