Mrs. J. S. Habel Elected President Of Rurkeville Club Burkevillc Garden Club met Monday, Jan, 5. in the Municipal Building, with 11 members pres ent. The president. Mrs. T. R Ham ilton. preside^ and led in the col lect. After the regular business, a committee report plans were dis cussed for an antique tea to be held in February. The report of the nominating committee^ postponed from the December meeting, presented a slate of Officers, which was ac cepted. New officers are president. Mrs. J. S. Habel: vice-president. Mrs. J. D. Bradshaw: 2nd vice president. Mrs. T. R. Hamilton: secretary. Mrs. Nannie Marriott, and treasurer. Mrs. L. R. Brad shaw.

Mrs. E. M. Sandy was leader for the day, and she gave a most in teresting talk on the use of dried materials for winter bouquets and showed flowers and grasses that she had prepared. One interesting arrangement was* honesty, or money plant, used with dried summer flowers. Exhibits for the day were dried arrangements and all-green ar langements. Mrs. E. M. Mrs. Clara Williams Dies In Richmond Funeral services fo; Mrs. Clara Illy Williams. 65. who died in Richmond. Monday. Jan. 5. were held at the Doyne Funeral Home in Farmville. Wednesday morn ing. Interment was in Pamplin Cemetery. Born Dec 9. 1887. in Charlotte county, Mrs. Williams had lived in Richmond for several years. She was a member of the Bain bridge Baptist Church. Withers, of Parmville Mr With ers died Monday. Dec. 29. at his ancestral home in Wytheville. Mr. Withers and his wife were I among, lln lirsi members of this I church. He served as lay reader in a room in a hotel, which hftd formerly been a bar room An organ was rented for services. The Rev. Mr. Withers was awarded a prayer book for Un most regular person in attendance at services in 1902. The congregation of the New Kensington church grew. And a moderate building was built with in recent years. But the congrega tion continued to grow and now lias a large and well-equipped building.

Mrs. R. C. Baldwin Dies at Son’s Home A funeral service foi Mrs. R. C. Baldwin. 72, widow of Courtney Baldwin, was held al the Rocks Baptist Church. Tuesday. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mrs. Baldwin died Sunday, Jan. 4. at the home of her son. Witt Baldwin, of Pamplin. She is also survived by two other sons, Hudson 'Baldwin, of Portsmouth, and Elmo Baldwin, of Ohio: five daughtcis, Mrs. Os car Gallier. of Lynchburg, Mrs. Wesley Seay and Mrs. Royal Seay, of Richmond, Mrs. Marshall Bucknam. of Prospect, and Mrs. Jim Taylor, of Hampton. She leaves one brother, Sam A. Fer guson. of Pamplin, and three sisters. Mrs. Tom Davis, Mrs. ; Richard Davis, and Mrs. Cleve Baldwin, all of Pamplin; 35 grandchildren: and eight great grandchildren.

It was a real privilege for this reporter to be asked to accompany a group of yniing men and women, iand boys and girls from the Jun ior and Intermediates Depart ments of Fine Creek Baptist I Church, about 20 in number. I Christmas Eve. leaving the church |at 7 and returning about 9, to , sins Christmas carols. With Ralph Worrell and Max Kilby in the driver’s seat, the rest of the group piled into the body of a large truck for a hay ride. Traveling approximately 15 miles, this group stopped at homes of sh it-ins, and sang “Merry Christmas to You’’ and several of the beautiful Christmas carols. This was a rich experience for those who partici pated. and much appreciation was expressed for the cheer brought to tiie homes visited. Recent guests of Mr. and Mrs. I. B. Wilson have been Mrs. J. W. Rucker, of Millboro Springs. John Wilson, of St. Brides, and Miss Joan Carr, of Richmond.
