Clipping In Time Produces Clean, High Quality Milk Clipping cows regularly is one of the first steps tn producing clean, high quality milk. Dr. G. C. Graf, head of the dairy department at VPI. says clipping saves 10 per cent of the time when preparaing udders for milking, and reduces sediment by preventing dirt accumuation — the chief source of sediment, in the milk. The cows are easier to keep t lean since long hairs on the flank, udder, and belly make a good place for dirt to cling. Furthermore, lice and ticks are more easily controlled when the cows are kept clipped. Clip the flanks of the cows back of a line from the tail head to the lront attachment of the udder. Clip the entire udder. Clip the tail from the tail head to a point about 8 to 10 inches above the end of the tail bone. The switch of tlie tail may be shortened if it reaches to the ground. If lice are present, an area about six inches vide along the the backbone may be clipped. Then spray or dust this area for effective lice control. Do not clip the cows all over during the winter months. They should be clipped as soon as they are brought into the barn for the winter, and then again in mid \\ injer. Powhatan Hi News . The Indians may have been swept off their feet oy Fluvanna but they made up for it Friday by defeating Montpelier 5-1 to 22. It was a swell game, one of the best the Indians have played. We have high hopes of retaining the trophy which we now fold. Tues day the boys lost to Washington Henfy by only one point. It was a very’ close and exciting game. The girls won by a score of 37 to 20. The recently organized Varisty Club of Powhatan High is now starting plans for a Minstrel which will be presented in March. A minstrel will be an annual activity of the Varsity Club. Teen-agers of the community sure haven't done a good job of filling the attendance book of the Teen Club. It is held every other Saturday night in the Memorial Building. We have a new juke box with all the top tunes of the day. It is well chaperoned by Mr. and Mrs. Bottoms# and Mrs. Knabe. The next session will be January 24 and we hope the attendance will increase in Older to keep it organized. The patrolmen and bus drivers of Powhatan High were remind ed last week of their duties and regulations by Mr. W. A. Sexton. Asst. Supervisor of Transporta tion of the State Board of Educa tion.

SENIORS The Senior Class has been ; selling annual pictures and work ing on the annual material Thanks to Douglas Palmore, the editor, it is going along very nicely. Seniors have a skating excur sion planned for Tuesday night. Seniors grade mothers gave the Seniors a Christmas party. Every one had a wonderful time and it ended with refreshments at Doug Palmore's home after attending the dance at Sunny Side. Lou Davis has been out of school with a cold, we all miss her and wish her a speedy re covery. JVNIORS The Junior Class is well under way with the script and plans for the annual "Junior Revue" which will be presented in the

high school auditorium on Febru ary 2t> anti 26. We are forming a new orchestra this year, which will have the name of the "Jazz landeis". The chorus line for the revue which incidentally consists of sixj Junior girls received a nice little ; surprise from Mrs. Fire baugh last Friday, two demerits each for being late lor her his tory class, due to practice. The Juniors have a class party planned for Saturday night. The girls will furnish the food and the boys will do the eating of course. SOPHOMORES The Sophomore Class is plan ning a food sale which usually has gpod results. It will take place in the spring. FRESHMEN The Freshmen Class has been busy planning an assembly which will take place in tiic near future. Freshmen are proud to contribute five pf the players of the girls’ basketball team. The Freshman Class also produces the two man agers for the boys’ team, Steve Wright and Wayne Clements. 8th GRADE December 19 was our last day lor fun and frolic at school for 52. Bach section of the 8th grade had a Christmas party. Miss Mar tin's class gave her a white bed spread, Mrs. Franklin's Class gave her a jewelry set.
