S techni cians. professionals, clerks, ste nographers and administrative assistants went abroad to engage m the same kind of educational work at a cost of $7,078,000 Figures also show. Mr. Abbitt. said, that the Mutual Security Agency contracted with 4414 grantees from European countries and 353 grantees front Asiatic countries to come to 'he United States for study at a cost of $9. 832.541. As part of the same pro gram. 318 Americans went to Europe and 225 to Southeast Asia at an additional cost ol $4,687,082 Mr. Abbitt was h.gli in his praise of the vocational agricul tural program throughout the na tion and particularly in Virginia. Ho explained that the federal government is allocating $626,464 lor all vocational piograms in Virginia. Of this, the vocational agriculture program gets about half. He said the house eeon< micS program is allocated $131,000, to which the State and local govern ments add more than S1.2CO.OOO. In all, more than 53.000.000 is added to the federal money for ; agriculture, home economics, trade and industrial1 and distribu tive education in Viiginii. mak ing a total of approximately $4,000,000 spent in this state. Fine Program Mr. Abbiit said Virginia has “one of the finest11 vocational agricultural programs in the country. More than 115.000 Vir ginians are enrolled in vocational classes in regular day school, or evening classes. He said in many places very good work has been done by tne agencies participating. “Those responsible for. and those interested in. the develop ment of a sound program of vo cational education in our public schools have no quarrel with edu cational assistance „iven foreign ers under either the Point Four Program, or other educational activities, where they are proper ly administered and are otierated with efficiency.
