The Women of Appomattox Church met with Mrs. W. A. Dave last Thursday. Mrs. Lucille Gee presided during t h e business meeting. The Bible lesson was taken from Colossians 1 7-18, Emphasis for the month was Stewardship. Mrs. Epsie Vale gave an interesting talk on this sub ject. Mrs. M. H Slayton and Mrs Paul Johnson were visitors to Lynchburg last week. Mrs. Claude Slayton and daugh ter. Jennetto. also Mrs. Murray Arrinctrn. visited Mrs Slayton's parents. Ab ba t, of Virginia's Fourth Congres sional District, has been named to the Awards Committee of the American Forestry Association foi tile fourth consecutive year. Representative Abbitt. of Appo mattox. joins five other disting uished Americans on the commit tee, which selects the recipients of the Forestry Association’s an nual awards for outstanding serv ice in the field of conservation of the nation's natural resources Named with Mr Abbitt on the committee are Robert N. Hoskins of Norfolk, industrial forester with the Seabord Airline Railway chairman: Dr M. I) Mobley of Washington, executive secre tary of the American Vocational Association: Milton M Bryan, o Washington, a representative of the United States Forestry Serv : • Dr Paul D. Sanders, of Rich mond. editor of the Southern Planter; and Charles Colhngwoo.d. of New York, radio and television newscaster for t li e Columbia Broadcasting System Mr. Abbitt was named to the committee first m 1950 and has served for each succeeding year. Ills latest appointment is for a one-yea 1 period, expiring Dec 31 1953. The appointments were an il unced by Don P. Johnston president ot the American Forest ry Association, with headquarters m Washington. Mr Abbitt has been a leader in the field of forestry work and. as a member of the House Agricultural Committee has contributed to the nation's conservation porgram planning. As a leader in this field lie was selected to present the awards of the Forestry Association at the annual meeting, last October, m Asheville. N. C.
