Completes Training: Vernon Alexander Hicks, son of ' Mrs. Inez O. Hicks, of Prospect. .ias completed nine weeks of re cruit training at the U. S. Naval Training Center. Bainbridge, Md. Hicks will spend a 14 day leave with his parents before reporting to Mayport, Florida for duty. Hicks entered the Navy through die Lynchburg Navy Recruiting Station December 19. Smith Graduates Sgt. Hugh M. Smith, 24. son of Mrs. Eliza Smith, of Farmville. ecentlv was graduated from the 'nfantry .school's advanced non ommissioiKd officers course at 'ort Benning. Ga The course was designed to pre pare non-commissioned officers ■ or duties as platoon sergeants vith infantry regiments. Sergeant Smith arrived at Fort 3enning from an assignment at Tort Riley, Kan. He entered the \rmy in 1952 after his graduation\ from R R Moton High School.
