America blessed, and mankind prospered. My Rights and My Responsibilities" W< are heaven blessed to live in America, the most beautiful and richest country in the world: our heritage of liberty and freedom es tablished by our forefathers is not .free: it has to be earned, defended and preserved by every generation, sometimes by war, always by loy alty and service. Our heritage of liberty and free dom is a heritage of human rights, piotected by the Bill of Rights in our Constitution. These rights are both economic and political. As I study this heritage. I wonder just what do they mean to me. As an American, my economic rights are:

Howard Camden, of Richmond, and Mr. and Mrs. Rob ert King and Wayne Mr. and^Mrs. W. J. Harmonn, of Philadelphia. Pa., visited her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Wharam. en route to Danville where their daughter, Loralee, is attending Av erette College. Mr. and Mrs. Har mann took Loralee back to Phila delphia for a two-week vacation. The community hymn sing was I held at Rocky Mount Methodist church Sunday. Mrs. Howard Moore, of Richmond, was operated on at a Richmond hos pital recently. Mrs. Moore is the former Miss Cora Whitlow, of Gold Hill. News has reached here that Gor don LeSueur, of Richmond, is ill. Gordon is a native of Alptia. Mr. and Mrs. Reese Wharam spent last week on a trip to West Virginia, Lightning Falls has purchased tiie Arvonia filling .station and store near here. Glover Woodson is in charge of the business. Rev. E. B. White, pastor, will conduct services at Arvonia Metho dist church Sunday at 11 a m.

FARM PRICES The level of prices received by! farmers in mid-January was re ported at 238 per cent of the 1910-14 base average compared with 237 per cent in mid-December, 226 per cent in mid-January last year and the record high of 313 per cent set in February, 1951. Prices paid by farm ers in mid-January were reported at 292 per cent of the 1910-14 base average compared with 290 per cent a month before and 218 per cent a year ago.

You can see it if you look closely, rust brown against the white of each in dividual blossom. Many of us carry crosses, faint like the dogwood's emblem but with us, never theless. Somehow, in this Lenten season, we become particularly conscious of them and of our need for help—a certain kind of help, that can be found only through the things we learn in Church. The Church doesn't pretend to banish our cares and woes. But, its teachings realistically consider the experiences of life itself. No matter what our personal cross may be, we seem able to bear its burden with more strength. Lent is a wonderful time in which to begin making church-going a regular part of your life—if you haven’t already.
