Appomattox Baptist Association Held 113rd Annual Meeting Last Wednesday

Forty churches were represented at the 133rd annual session of Appo mattox Baptist Association last Wednesday at Brookneal. The vari ous gdi-sts a n d representatives la ai d reports on foreign, home and state missions, the Brotherhood, evangelism, temperance and social service, relief and annuity work. Officers of the Association are Morris G Smith, moderator: G. L Haley, clerk and treasurer; and D. C Morris, auditor. Each of the subjects was pre sented by tiie association chairmen and they intorduced a speaker on the subject. Rev Ira B. Hall, pastor of First Baptist Church, Petersburg, gave the report on missions. The report on evangelism "'as given by Rev L P, Brown. He showed that there are 36 associa 'tions in Virginia with 1.308 churches having a total of 17,307 baptisms Iasi year The Rev. G. L Euring. of Rich mond. reported that the Virginia Baptists have been rather slow in oreaniing a Brotherhood, with only a few churches in the state having such an organization. Tlie Rev. Funeral Services For David Wray Merchant Thursday Afternoon Funeral services for David Wray Merchant, eight-year-old-son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas D. Merchant, of Mt. Vinco, Buckingham county, were held Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Mulberry Grove Baptist Church in Buckingham Interment was in Pine Grove Presbyterian Church cemetery in Amelia The Rev Ernest Harris conducted the services. The youth died Tuesday night at the Southside Community Hospital. He was fatally injured Monday | about 6:30 p.m. when he was struck ■ by a car near his home. The car was driven by Henry Wright, Jr David Wray Merchant was a third grade student at Buckingham Elementary School. He was born in California August 14. 1948, and moved to Buckingham with his par ents. who began operation of a store at Mt. Vinco. three years ago. Besides his parents he is«survived by one brother.
