Last spring competition was so hot that companies had to make abOut four offers for every technically trained student hired and nearly two offers before they could sew up a nontechnical man. This year competition will continue, says the magazine, but not at such a strong pace. " f
Last year the average starting salary for technically trained men was around $465 a month. This year it will go to $485. Aeronautical and electrical engineers and engineering physicists received the best pay last June. But .cutbacks in aircraft and electronics may bold demand down somewhat for these m^n this year.
Nontechnical graduates got about $400 a month last spring. That will be up to about $425 this year. Accountants, however,, will start at about $465 and insurance, banking and retailing may command above average pay too.
