There has been noised abroad of late considerable sentiment in favor of the South breaking from Democratic ranks and leading thenation in a switch to a conservative third party. This, we think, would be the heighth of folly, and with the reader’s permission, we will touch li,ghtly. upon a few reasons for retaining our position in the Democratic fold. ,
First of all. Southern politicians are justly proud of their unusual oratorial powers. And while there are deep and disturbing differences between Democrats from the North and the South, it is just these differences that offer the Southern orators their greatest opportunity to display them prowess. A recent example of this may be observed in tips speech on a civil rights-intergration resolution at the Democratic National Committee meetingthis past Saturday. • Thundered the Hon. A. B. Chaqtfef, happy fence-sitting governor of Kentucky, "“do not press down this crown of thorns upon their (the South's) brow.” The really comforting aspect Qf this situation is that the northern Democrats are becoming more and more truculent, thus insuring an almost inexhaustible vent for Southern steam, without any obligation upon the orator to do a thing about it except spell-bind ms audiences. •' -
