Longwood Alumnae Party Raises About $85 For Fund

Thirty-six tables were set up, Thursday night, in the receration room of Longwood College for the annual benefit card party of the Prince Edward Chaplet of Long j wood Alumnae Association. Pro ceeds from the paity, which amounted to about i85. will be j used by the association for the Mary White Cox M cmorial Scholarship Fund. Co-chairmen of the benefit party were Mrs. William F. Watkins, Jr., and Mrs. Oscar Mc Intosh. Individual prizes foi high score at each table and about 'J5 door prizes were given at the party. Prizes were donated by Farmville merchants to the Aiuntnae As I sociation. Cookies, made by the Alumnae Association, and soft drinks were ! served by the refreshment com mittee. composed of Mrs. T. O. Bondurant. chairman. Mrs. R. C.

Gilmer, Mrs. J. M. Fleetwood and Mrs. Julian Bradshaw. Mrs. J. M. Watkins, speaking lor the president of the associa tion. Mrs. R. E. Withers, Jr., and Dr. D. S. Lancaster, president of Longwood College, welcomed the guests to the party. Dr. Lancaster said that he and the college wanted to thank the guests for the worthy scholarship fund that they were benefiting by playing cards that night. He felt that many of the gills who had used the Mary White Cox Scholarship Fund had proved a source of pride to tne Alumnae Association, county and college Besides the sale of tickets, some merchants and individuals gave direct contributions to the scholarship fund. Tiie Mary White Cox Scholar ship Fund is awarded each year to an outstanding girl graduate of Worsham or Farmville High School.

Mrs. Huddell and the children will visit her parents. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bishop, at Karney. Neb. They will then go to Seattle. Wash., to board ship about Febru ary 21. Mrs. Huddell has oc.cn teaching in the Fifth grade ai Farmville Elementary School tins term. Ma jor Huddell left Farmville for Japan in November 1951. Now back in Japan, he had a tour of duty in Korea from April to De cember. The family will live near Osaka. Japan, where Major Hud dell serves the 382nd General Hospital.
