against girls. The largest number of contest- j ants fell in the girls classifies- ] tion under 14 years of age. The | judges took a long time in decid- | ing the winners in this group and complimented the contestants for their poise, pronunciation and knowledge of their subjects. Winners in the under 14 age group for the girls was Kathryn Roach, 13, who spoke on "Growth Through Clubs". Betsy Spencer, 13. won second place with her talk on "Why Driver Training is Important." Third place was cap tured by ten-year-old Pam Jam erson. whose subject was "Your Church and God". Nancy Hardi man. 11. won fourth place. In the boys contest under 14.
E. M. Wright. 11 years old. won over Charlie Kidd with his speech. "Highlights of the Revolutionary War." There were only two con testants in this group. Kidd spoke on "Daniel Boone Blazes the Wil derness Trail." In the over 14 year old groups there were two contestants for the boys and two for the girls Kenneth Bryant, 15, won the boys award with a speech on "Living Electrically"'. Garland Swartz took second place with has speech about "Peter Francisco, A Citizen of Buckingham County. " Betty Ruth Dunnavant. 16, cap tured the girls award with a talk on "What America Means To Ms." Runner-up in this division was Gloria Newton who reviewed
