New Mayoress

Mrs. Martha Ann Critzer was elected Mayor of Washington, * Va., Tuesday June 10th She succeeds Mrs. Dorothy Davis who re* signed after holding die office eight years. An, all woman council was also relected. • Election jreturns indicate the voters think the ladies have been doing a splended job. Since no one had filed for candidancy it was a write -in election with only a few votes being cast for men far either mayor or council. Mr. Critzer did not solicit votes' but says since elected by a majority, die will accept the position and takes over the g^vel In September. Council women reelected were Miss Ruby Jenkins, Mrs. Dorothy • Hawkins, Mrs. Alice Verner, Mrs. Christine Johnston and Mrs. Bobby Critzer. Mrs. Edna Wayland was elected to replace, Mrs. Jessie Cox who was serving temporarily.'

Accident Tuesdayj

An accident, occured Tuesday evening at about 6:30 in front of the Ivy Hill Tea room between Washington and Sperrvivlle.

1950 Buick car owned and operated by John Gyruh of Ohio hit a truck driven by John Marshal Clarke of Washington, Va, f.

The -Gyruh car heading to Sperryville hit the truck coming toward Washington. The cause of thc accident is unknown. * ,

In the Gyruh car from Ohio was Mr. Grpruh and his wife a,newly wed couple on their honeymoon. The>r both were carried to the Warren Memorial hospital by the Washington Rescue Squad. \

John Gyruh received a broken left arm and cuts and bruises on his legs and head. Mrs. Gyruh1 recieved cuts and bruises, buft nothing serious.

John Marshall Clarke was apparently not injured.

Thc speedy response and efficient handling of- the case by the Washington Rescue Squad is to bp commended.
