Contest
Sally Latham was awarded a ^ self-propelled rotary lawn mower June 30 as a prize in a national contest sponsored by Mechanix Illustrated Magazine, a monthly Fawcett publication.
The contest requirements were - to read fifteen articles in each of. the January, Februaryand March issues of Mechanix Illustrated and select five from each issue and list them in the order in which they, would appeal to the general pub-! lie.; : ; ' v\ ‘i:v ■;
In May, Sally was sent an if far davit to sign declaring the work as her-own and the] latter part of June was notified that out of 361 prizes offered she had placed 86th over the nation. She was requested * not to publicize the award until this week when the August, issue of the magaine, now on the news stands, listed all of the winners..
The mower was delivered to her June 30 by a trucking company. She was so proud of her $ix«s cent lawn mower (the price of two postage stamps) it was awfully hard to keep it a secret until this week. - _ . Sally completed the seventh grade at Sperryville Elementary School in June and will enter the i eighth, grade at Rappahannock \ County High in September.
