H> of their concerns about the financing oi a new wastewater system and their ability to pay. The project, which had been authorized by the town at an ear' tier meeting, is at this point, a fait accompli a done deal, But that didn't stop many from expressing irritation that the council had not clone enough to either offset the costs or; prepare residents for what was to come. Most of those who spoke in trout of a crowd of some 45 residents land some non-residents), and the council expressed skepticism about the draft ordinance and the financing details of the project which include assumptions that most homeowners will be able to pay the $7,500 plus access fee and that the Avon Hall estate will be easily disposed of and for a price that has already been incorporated into the finance model. If we can’t sell Avon Hall, how do we make up that deficit,” he asked. The town, he said, seemed to have “Hit its eggs itt one bosket" and that it needed a good Plan B, Diane Bruce, Circuit Court Clerk and homeowner on Cay Street, was a little more blunt in her assessment of the model. She said that there was "too much that was not absolutely clear” and that at this point, much of the financing model was "pie in the sky.” Pawn Kvenson, who lives on Piedmont Avenue, echoed those sentiments and told the council that t hey should “have the financing really nailed down before we start tearing up streets." But that is where l was and what l was doing recently R-asn Kmbser Bob Czekaj. Rappahannock County Public- Schools Athletic Krwtor. has ur^aniswi the opportunity for otur young athletes to travel to Somerset County Pa., and participate in the Bill Basketball Tournament there for the last three years. The logistics of getting 25 people there, feeding them, and arranging for reasonable housing was no small feat, but Bob and bis wife Gail did. a terrific job of doing just that. Coaches, players, and chaperones were housed at Seven Springs Resort in two cabins for the two-day tournament. The first round began Friday evening less than two hours after the teams' arrival and was held at nearby Rockwood Higb School. The girts lust to a much larger and stronger team but played with aggressiveness, sportsmanship. and a team efiort that should make their parents and school proud, 'the boys" game fol-« , lowed the girls" and. in. spite of a » mi school and a five-hour bus ride earlier that day. fought heroically tn a 3b to -4T loss. Later that after, noon after Tanya's prepared lunch, the second round oi'games began. The girls again fought hard but were unable to pull out a victory against another larger Pennsylvania team. The boys were not to be denied, however, and out' fought and out'hustled their opponents in an exciting come- from-behind to 4t> victory to continue their great season. Most important, however. is the tact that Rappahannock County is very fortunate to have coaches land an Athletic Director* such as Bob Csek^i and Scott Wilde and other adults and parents who wonderfully support the athletic programs. The coaches give an extraordinary amount of their time to train these students not only in individual athletic skills but also in teamwork, good sportsmanship, and meeting a challenge head on. Mayor Eugene Leggett confirmed that construction is scheduled to begin in January 2009 and that there are no other meetings scheduled before the next council meeting on Jan. 14.
