Mottley. a junior cadet at VPI. marched in the parade as a member of Tech's crack Persh ing Rifles. The famed drill team was accompanied by VPTs prize taking band, the Tech Hight.v Tities. For the Per-hing Rifles. It was the second inaugural, the team having marched as Honor Guard for Governor Tuck at the Truman inaugural in 1949. Eight of Farmville's nine youths at VMI marched passed the re viewing stand smartly. Only Everett Irby, confined with flu. missed. Marching were Ronald Coleman. David Paulette. Ned Whitlock. Arthur Koch. Elliott Booker. III. James Whitt. Buddy Hubbard and Frank T. Wootton Jr. A catastrophe for parents and friends of the VMI cadet corps marching unit occured when the TV sponsor's time expired and the program was cut off. The VMI unit was to have been the next to appear on the screen. A bit of after-inauguration ex citement rippled along Main street in Farmville Wednesday when the limousine of the Gover nor of North Carolina, with its shiny No. 1 license plate, appear ed. En route home from Washing ton. the neighboring gubernatorial delegation stopped here for a brief luncheon. It is not known whether the governor was in the group or not. since he was re ported confined by illness, and had been represented in Washing ton by North Carolina's Lieu tenant- Governor.
