Education?
Rappahannock needs a new High School Building. The need has long been evident to those people locally who are aware the inadequacies of the present high school. The need is glaringly evident to newcomers and outsiders, even from our nearest neighboring counties. The need might not be evident to those whose way of thinking makes them insist that the old shoe, with a little wear left in it. must be worn no matter how much it pinches, hurts or cripples. Let’s start at the beginning. Whv a high school education, what is the need for one? One hundred years ago the person with a high school education was one of the elite. Today a much higher percentage of people have a high school education and in some cases a higher percentage are in colleges than were then in high school. High school education has become a necessity for modern life, to meet it successfully and to enjoy it . . . In many cases it is only an intermediate step where it used to be'final. High school education is here, and it’s here to stay. Fortunately, the county does not have the obligation to furnish a college. The state does that. But it is incubent upon it to make available educational facilities through the twelfth grade.
