Culpeper Layman To Speak At Sperryville Methodist Church Mr. Walter Potter, a certified Lay Speaker from the Culpeper Methodist Church will be guest speaker at the 11 :00 A. M. worship hour in the Sperryville Methodist Church Sunday, Nov. 10th. Mr. Potter, the editor of the Culpeper Star Exponent will be the first of a series of outstanding laymen who will fill the pulpit on the second Sunday of each month It is through this type of layman’s program that the Sperry, ville Church plans to have services even Sunday. Last veAr 205 cases of poliomyelitis had been reported to date while this year only 96 cases have been lited. The present seasop of high incidence is over but this is th« time to prepare for prevention of 19s8. A dose now and another in a month to sax weeks willfulf for the third dose next July. Reports as of November 6th showed a number of children out for several days, back in school. At the Rappahannock High School there were 66 absent with 22 grade children out. Sperryville had 72 absent (20SJ-) with two teachers out. At Forest Grove both' teachers are out and 41 children absent. 27\<ere present. At Flint Hill all the teachers are present w*fh yV7r of th<- pupils out. Several of the bus drivers are sick. Mr. Palmer Named Warden Chief F're Warden Ravmond Tohnson of Rappahannock Countv announces the appointment of C. B. Palmer, Jr.Vocational Agriculture Teacher of Rapoahannoclc High School, as I/real Fire War. V*en. With the anoointment of. Mr Palmer it will increase«the fire control organization of th« countv to 1Q wardens. This will be one warden to each 2527 acres of woodlands which has to be protected from forest fires. This, as you will notice is considerable forest acreage for so few men to protect, hut with the assistance of the reguJarfftTff fcghti ng crew* which the present wardens have registered to work under them and thP cooperation of the general public in responding to requests to help fight a forest fire, the Chief Warden is of the opinion that most of the fires in the coun♦v cm) he controlled before fhev develop into large fires. \lr. Palmer will be given a commission bv Governor Sanley which will convey the authorin’ to hire fire fighters and to help enforce the State forest fire laws in accordance with instructions from the State Forester and the Chief Forest Warden. Rescue Squad Installs 2-Way Radio In Ambulance Members of the Washington Rescue Squad are highly pleased with their two-way radio they have just installed in their ambulance. ‘'It is.one of the late models”, one member .said. “It works fine and we feel it is worth every cent of the $425.00 we paid for it”. , .
