Through the cooperation and support_of Sears, Roebi ck Foundation a start was made several years ago in selecting five of the top gilts from spring litters produced by one of Maryland’s leading Yorkshire producers, Anthon) Muto, who besides being a farmer of note, is a producer of Fox Movietone News Shorts. Since that tijme outstanding boars have been selected on type, breed character, anil performance from such leading i Virginia producers as Dr. Wafers of Manassas and Hawthorne Bros, of Ashland. Ony the top gilts from each litter produced locally have been kept for replacements from [these foundation females. These time-proveh methods of selection are paying off. Last fall market hogs produced from this Wood were, declared Grand Champion Pen-of-Three it the Orangr Show. Ttns ist Delivery Of Tree Seedlings Begins 'Die first week of December, tire Virginia Division of Forestry started delivery of the forty million tree seedlings that were raised in their two state nurseries. These forty million tree seedlings will be planfed by thousands of landowners throughout the State of Virginia, by the end of March 1958. It is estimated that when ill of these tree seedlings are planted, approximately fifty-five thousand acres of land will be returned to the production of a new foresr crop. | The Virginia Division of Forestry stated that orders for tree seedlings are being received daily and of the total amount available, nearly thirty million have already been ordered. During the past three planting seasons, all available planting stotjk has been sold by the end of January each year. Interested landowners should make inquiry as soon as possible so that arrangjements may be made for tree seedlings desired for the planting season.
