Grade Eight Classical Recital. On the afternoon of May 19th. grade eight prvseated a Classical Recital. The students performed impressively, under the inspired direction of their English teacher. Mrs. Kirsten Youngvjuist. presenting scenes from Antigone. Julius Caesar, and The tXiyssey The backdrop wu» an outdoor stage set be tore a Gwd mural recently paint ed by Wakefields Studio Art class and eighth etude stu dents, under the guidance of local artists Ti»m and Kerne Mullany. As describ'd by Head of School Kathleen Grove, the students “recited in clear loud voices the complex lines horn each selection uf classic literature. The minimalist scenery, costumes, and masks added to the sense of authenticity."

The WCDS Knvirothon team competed May IS ami 19 at James Madison University with 17 other teams at the Virginia state competition and came home with a first place win m the “Special Issues" category and fith place overall. WCDSs Athletes for March/April wort' varsity tennis player Russell hes kovvc and varsity soccer play er Abigael Whitaker. Accor ding to Athletic Director Mike Kenney, "Russell came out of nowhere to be a mtyor factor on the Wakefield Country Day School tennis team, (Misting several key wins during the mouth of April in his first season of competitive tennis." Russell also teamed up to capture a pair of doubles wins during the month. Abbv ei\joyed her best month of the season in April, scoring in four separate conh'sts and miming thiw goals in an 8-2 road win over thuuHk'o- According to Mr Kenney. “As a midfielder. Abby was awarded Honor able Mention in the Delaney Athletic Conference All Conference voting."
