By Dave O'Connell Rappahannock News Staff Wnt*r tf you want to stump Culpeper resident and “Jeopardy!’* champion Milt Hathaway just ask him one - of the questions he aced in his Thursday night appearance on the syndicated quiz show “It was amazing because even watching it, I was still missing questions,** said Hathaway “l was there. I should remember, but I was tike ‘Dam. when did this category come up? What the heck is that supposed to met in .’"' In the end. his knowledge of French tapestries, television robots and other trivial matters meant a $38,401 payday and newfound celebrity status at Eastern View High School, where the 62-vear old works as a librarian. 'Thekicfe have been excited.'* said Hathaway. 'They ask me. 'How do you learn that stuff? Do they give you the categories ahead of time?'' So one might shrug off a $50,000 per night after at a rural Virginia estate 6$ miles west of Washington. DlC. as just another opportunistic cash grah. But this time the money is for charity, and this estate belongs to the most famous conductor in the world, and once £«u take a peek at what Maestro Lurin Maaxel and his d|fe EKethnde TurbanMmiiai have to offer, this may Jast be the best deal around. Maaael is the musk for the New York Philhirmonk Orchestra. Walking barefoot one recent afternoon. Dietlinde Maaxel - an attractive, sprightly former German actress - very graciously gave a quick tour of the manor house and explained why she and her husband derided to make their Castleton estate in Rappahannock County available for the Inauguration. “I believe very much in sharing what we have here* she said. They saw what others were asking to rent their houses during the Inauguration, and derided to take advantage of the excitement, but put it to charitable use.
