Think $50,000 is too much? First of all. the estate has several houses - not cabins. not in-law suites above garages - houses - that in many respects are miniestates of their own, and the Maazels say they can easily accommodate 50 people.
That's still $1,000 per person per night, but where in D.C. can you find a respectable hotel room at that price at this stage of the game? The Willard, which doesn't have any rooms left, was asking $900 per night.
But even if you could, what hotel would have an acoustically perfect theater (built where 15.000 chickens used to livei on the grounds, and a private concert in an intimate setting with world class musicians all on a 550acre estate surrounded by farms.
It's sort of like Green Acres on steroids,
Okay what about private Jacuzzis. fireplaces, a spa that most people pay membership tees for. an indoor swimming pool connected to the main manor house (preCivil War but exquisitely restored and with a very nice English conservatory off to one side) by a tunnel, enclosed gull' carts to whisk you around, wireless Internet. bowling alleys, a commercial movie screen with a private collection of foreign films, horse riding, a petting aoo and a camel?
The camel is the deal clincher.
