The side to which Sew England belonged suc ceeded in the late war. The side to which the Dutch belonged was triumphant at Water loo. Some Dutchman actually claimed for his countrymen the credit of having gained the victory. This was, of course, an absurdi ty, but it was not a greater absurdity than ' the claim of New England to a triumph ob tained by the united arms of twenty-four
