Glee Club Has Six Definite Dates Madison, Richmond, Arlington on List Following mid-term exams, the Hampden-Sydney Gltc Club will begin work on one of its most ambitious spring seasons in recent years. Because of the ‘‘broken-up" nature of the first semester, very little, other than ilie Christmas conceit, could be undertaken: however, the second semester is almost uninterrupted, and this allows the Glee Club time to ac complish a great deal. The following is a summary of the definite appearances being scheduled: programs at Law renceville. at Madison College in Harrisonburg, at Martinsville, at Grace Covenant Church in Rich mond: a Spring conceit here at Hampden - Sydney, and a per formance at Arlington. There aic several other engagements pend ing. and if and when they become definite, they will* be announced. Two of the programs listed above will be "repeat perform ances". Two years ago. the Glee Club visited both Martinsville and Arlington, with some success. At Arlington members were privi leged to sing with the Civic Sniy phony Orchestra and be reviewed by Washington Critic Paul Hume. It is indeed a pleasure to Io'-k forward to another appearance in this city. For this program, the Glee Club will prepare Gabriel Faure's "Requiem. Of course, the Glee Club will be assisted several times during the season by the I.ongwood Chorus' notably at Arlington). This combination of talents has always benefited cvuyonc. Longwood Student Completes Studv Of Honors Course A Longwood College senior has completed one final examination, probably the mast auspicious one she will ever have to face in her life. Elizabeth A Stone, of Rust burg. became this week the first student to complete .. new pro gram of honors courses adminis tered by the college. After preparing lor a whole year, a research topic on "The Concept of the Renaissance in Modern Historical Hit-ion." Miss Stone submitted her 83-page thesis for an oral examination by a committee of visiting professors. The examining committee was composed of Dr. .J V. Cunning ham. professor of English at the University of Virginia. Dr. Fran cis Ghigo. professor of romance languages at Hampden - Sydney College: and Janies M. Grainger, retired professor of English at Longwood College. Di. R. G. Si monini. head of the Longwood English department., served as the candidate's advisor throughout the course.
