In the field of public relations the club gave a radio program on farm safety, and had 12 news articles written on farm safety. Some of these articles were published in the school paper and one was published in the newspaper. Members made speeches on farm safety in the chap ter public speaking contest. and three strip films on farm safety. Prom March 15 to April 15, 1950. the club conducted a rat and mouse control campaign. They used 120 pounds of rat poison and distributed 350 pieces of literature. In an active safety campaign, i club members marked more than 750 hazards on 110 Buckingham; farms. The hazards were marked with red cards to emphasize the danger to the farmers. Contests were held for the best I essay, slogans and posters on farm safety. Also a library was started using farm safety pamphlets. A safety exhibit was displayed in Roanoke last May 24 and 25.

Guinea Club Women Meet With Presidents, Mrs. f). Hazlegrove On Wednesday afternoon. March 13. the Guinea H. D. Club was enter tained by Mrs. David Hazlegrove. the club president. Devotions were conducted by Mrs. J. P. Stratton. Mrs. Georgia Wilkerson, the home demonstration agent, gave informa tion concerning the Ground Ob server Crops. Among business items a new secretary. Mrs. Thomas Scott, was elected, since the former secretary, Mrs. Reuben Addleman. resigned. It was voted to give $10 for bus transportation for 4-H club members to attend camp. There was a collection of $1.73 for "Pen nies for Friendship." Twelve members were present, and Mrs. Pitt Amos was guest of honor. Mrs. Audrey Robinson gave the demonstration on "Using Herbs. Sauces, and seasonings.” Refresh ments were served. The group was mvited to meet with Mrs. Charles Womack, Jr., for the regular month ly meeting in April. _

Wynne Conducts Education Study A national study of the experience desirable for new teachers is being conducted by a Farmville man. Dr. John P. Wynne, professor of education at Longwood College, is chairman of an Association of Col leges for Teacher Education com mittee which is studying the prob lem. Other committee members come from New York, Michigan and | North Carolina. Two years ago the association and the Philosophy of Education society ! began the study, which is now being | reviewed by a group of educational philosophers and teacher education specialists. Eventually plans call for distri | bution of the study findings to edu j cation schools. ! Wynne attended an ACTE cqnven j tion recently in Chicago. He also ! represented the American Philo ! sophical association at a meeting of [the co-ordinating committee of col lege problems of teacher educa tion, a committee composed of n 'representatives of national orgam ; rations interested in teachers edu cation. Wynne presented material on ac creditation at the meeting.

The small college has a greater opportunity to provide for the ex ceptional student. Di Gross .'aid. as outstanding students aiv more quickly spotted in the smaller col lege. and an appreciative teacher may lead the gifted scholar into fields worthy of his abilities. "It would be the despair of the country." he concluded, "if we could not look to the small college to up hold our standards of building moti vation for scholarship and research to meet the demands of our increas ingly complex world.”
