Warned Asian Influenza
“Local communities should start now to organize programs to cope with Asian influenza if it should appear in their midst,” according to a statement from the newly organized Joint Information and Publicity Committee of the Virginia Medical Society and the State Department of Health.
Dr. James - D. Hagood, president of the Medical Society, and Dr. Mack I. Shanholtz, State Health Commissioner, stated that the Committee will review all available information on the Asian influenza situation and keep the general public and community groups informed.
The Committee reports that “the State Health Department will nor handle the vaccine. Tbe wholesale druggists, the local druggists and local phvsicians will see that the vaccine finally reaches the individual.” The vaccine is being distributed among the states on a voluntary allocation basis. . Local physicians will have informatipn regarding the vaccine and its-usage and should be consulted at an eariv date regarding listing of those wish to receive the vaccine when it is av ailable.
