Immediately insurance men have set up a howl. They claim the proposal is socialistic and accuse the state of going into -the insurance business. They assert! that their “family protection coverage” is a far better answer- This is a type of insurance whereby a person can collect from his own policy if he cannot recover from the other man. The coverage, of course, qosts extra.To

one provision of the bill we do object. We feel the charge of lVa'd against insurance company premiums definitely smacks of socialism. There is no reason why the insurance companies should contribute to this fund when they have no contingent liability under it, nor can they benefit from it.

It seems to us, however, that the suggested bill is a good one, in' most respects- The cost is put where it belongs, on the uninsured driver. Furthermore, if a man with no insurance is charged $10.00 per year, and is still liable in full for all damages, he should soon see the light and obtain coverage- Certainly the bill would be a forw’ard step toward solving an extremely bad situation. We have seen too many accidents wrhe"e the driver at fault had no insurance and was judgement proof.
