Over 4 Million
Trees Planted
Upon completion of the 19601961 tree planting season, the tally shows that a little over four million trees have been planted in District HI of the Virginia Division of Forestry. This figure does not include those trees planted by industry. The district is comprised of sixteen counties witin the central Piedmont region of the state. Even with the past severe winter, these four million plus trees constitute a four percent increase over last season’s totals.
This future forest crop was planted on various sites and land conditions. About 40 percent of the total was planted on open abandoned farm land, 10 percent on bulldozed and disced land areas, and 50 percent on heavily cut-over and logged tracts.
