Two Rappahannock fire companies entered firemen’s parades over the holiday week end, each bringing home a first prize. The Washington Volunteer Fire Department won a $30 prize for the best appearing fire company in the Shenandoah V.F.W. Parade' held Saturday night. Amissville firemen captured first place for the best appearing apparatus and equipment in the Gordonsville Labor Day Parade. The' equipment entered by the Washington Company included^ the Rescue Car, the International pumper, and the antique Brockway. To save wear aind tear on the. old truck, L. V. Merrill loaned* the firemen a truck to transport it over the mountains. Though ram and threatening skies made umbrellas plentiful,! the parade continued on schedule. If a prize had been given for the “wOrkingest fireman,” Husky Scroggins would have won, hand down. He did double duty, serving as windshield wiper tor the Brockway and officiating at die Handciranked siren.
The annual parade! pf the Gor» donsville firemen was viewed by an estimated 7,000 spectators. Altogether, 37 units participated.
