Feeder Calf Sale and Apple Harvest Times are here.
Seeminigly your County Agent has less time to be around apple . orchards in the fall than any time of the year. Wish I could be two people about then hut for the past , ten falls time has of necessity been spent in connection with Feeder Calf Sale work; herd inspections with the weeding committees, planning the advertising, writing' ads, getting out post cards, arranging inspection and delivery schedules. Hard but interesting * work so I’m not complaining.
The Virginia Feeder Calf exhibits placed first and second at the • Columbus Fair, the Angus carload | _ winning the Grand Championship i and the Hereford the Reserve Championship. Thanks to Earl Combs a part of the Angus were from Rappahannock. Also an Angus calf “bought at a Virginia Calf Sale" last fall by John Thiegartner and son won the champonship in the commercial jshow. f
Since Mr. Thiegartner was a buyer of 40 head at the Rappahan! nock Angus Feeder Calf Sale, and since I know Mr. Thegartner went back to Ohio after our calf sale, I’m claiming this honor for Rappahannock until proven wrong, i The performance of these calvfes j. in Ohio last year proved to be the J most outstanding advertising results. With Pennsylvania short 1955 corn crop both years winning exhibits could mean much to pur calf producers this fall.
