71 Designs
"63 Virginia artists from every section of Virginia have raised brushed to paint *out tuberculosis and have submitted 71 designs to compete in the national annual Chirtmas Seal contest,”, said Edmond H. Brill, Jr, Chairman, Public Information Committee, Virginia Tuberculosis Association, 'This is the largest number of artists in Virginia to ever participate.” Brill stated. A lone Virginia entry last year by Wesley Dennis of Warrenton won recognition, among the top ten.
Miller and Rhoads has devoted a window to these entries during the week beginning September 13 and all Virginians are urged to view the display before he designs are sent to the National TB Association for juding in October. In 1947 the selection of the design for Christmas Seal was first put on a national competitive basis. This year Virginia’s first intensive effort was made to promote the competition among Virginia artists.
Richmond Area artists participating are: Arthur O. Rishl Forest R. Brauer, Emile Cahen. Jr., Edgar A. Carroll, Alfred M. Casino. Ann S. Cheatham. ^. Randolph Cheatham, Lonnie Creeger, Nicholas J. D’Amato, Irene C. Gray, George H. Ben Johnson. Frances Headen McKendrick. Robert R. Meacham, Ashton D. Mitchell, Jr., Mrs. Katherine Rowe and Daniel J. VVetta. The Virginia Tuberculosis Association and its 96 local TB associations sponsored the competition
