Killed instantly were the driver, Charles Edward VVavland. 16. and James Wilson Atkins, 25. both of Sperryville, Pegiv O. Cubbage, 19, of Stanley, died shortly after she was admitted to Page County Memorial Hospital in Luray.

Admitted " to the hospital in fair condition were Sylvia Gray. 19, Stanley, and Thomas Edward Jenkins, 22, of Sperry/ilie. Robert- Leake, 16, also of Sperryville, was transferred to Rocking, ham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg with critical injuries including fractures of the skull, ankles and pelvis.

Stare Trooper Ray M. Dodson said the car was traveling at an estimated speed of 70-^5 miles an hour when it crossed the roadway and struck a concrete culvert. Emm the absence of brake marks on the roadway, Dodson s.r’d it appeared that the driver had fallen asleep ar the wheel.

Grayside services for Atkins, a Korean War veteran and son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank L. Atkins, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Washington, Va„ Masonic Cemetery. . ' ' : T , Three otherVvwerr critically.
