Education — Our Way To Happy Living “Go to school. Get an education. Its something nobody can ever take away from you.” How often, as a youngster, have you heard that advise. There is truth in that. But there is greater truth in the unspoken words of the advise. An education also is some thing no one else can GIVE you. Today—in the day of the finest triumphs of education— our educational system is standing its greatest tests. This is American Education Week. Let us reflect on education for a moment- Let us think of what it means to us, and what responsibility we owe to it. What do you think about, when you consider education? Schools, books, perfect English, college degrees and classical music For some, all of these, and more, mean education. For otheri, it is simpler. Education is the development of people mentally, morally and spiritually for full fruitful, happy lives. Educated people produce the tools that carve our modern civilization. They are the men and women of science, of engineering, of technology. Educated people weave our lovely fabrics, construct our comfortable homes, and .produce bur modern cars. They build our highways, our ships, our planes. Educated people guide us tow'ardgmoral truth and spirital living. They lead our churches, our schools, our colleges. Education does not necessarily mean perfect English.' college degrees, classical music. Some of our better educated people wouldn’t know about simultaneous linear equa tions or Einstein’s theory. It means the preparation of each of us to fulfill h>s place and his responsibility in life. That is what we expect from education as we kno\\ it —if we are willing to accept it and support it. What do we owe to education? We owe our efforts to be informed of its accomplishments, its responsibilities, its needs. We owe our unfailing support to make education what we ourselves want it to be. If we pay education what is due it, it will repay us man; times over.
