Petty Officer First Class A. E. Anderson of the Navy Recruiting Station in Culpeper announced today that all men enlisted from this areti will b^ transferred to the Naval Trailing Center at Great Lakes for recruit training.
This training center, established in 1911 has grown to be the largest naval recruit training center in the world. Great Lakes is situated hear Lake Michigan. Although not nearly as large as the Pacific or Atlantic it looks just as big to the. young lad who hasn’t experienced the thrill of crossing the oceans aboard one of the Navy’s mighty men-of-war.
Looking at the size of Great Lakes from a different angle, if you can imagine a building 25 ft. wide, 13 feet tall and 100 MILES long, you get some idea of total area of all the Great Lakes buildings if they were put under one roof. •
Young bluejackets undergo 9 weeks of training which includes seamanship, fire fighting. Naval customs, traditions and courtsies. It is here that they also become the proud owners of their new suit of Navy blues.
Upon successful completion of boot camp they are given 14 days leave before being assigned to one of the Navy’s many service schools or one ofsthe ships of the fleet.
Anyone desiring further information may contact Petty Officer Anderson at the Post Office in Washington every Thursday, 9:30 a.m. to 12 noon.
