A number of farm families in Rappahannock County are taking a second look at their farm and home records, analyzing the past year’s operations and working out plans for the 1958 year,* Howard W Hawks, county supervisor of the Farmers Hyme Administration, reported. <

M The county supervisor supplies each family with a simple farm aijd home record book as part of the fajm management aid. When, necessary, he shows the family how to keep tract of income, costs, results of specific operations, debt payments, and otheij Items that are parts of the business of farming. I ^ At the end of die farming year, the farmer and his wife find out how t,h e i r farmirig operations matched up with thp plans they had made. To help jdo this they set a definite date to ipeet with the ; Farmers Home Administration county supervisor,- apd go over their farm and bomjr plans and ttheir filled in record) book. With the county; supervisor’s help, they analyze jhe progress, successes, and mistakes. For ex-, ample, if their records show that a certain' livestock or crop enterprise failed to work out satisfactorily ^hey- look for reasons such as in^flfeper feeding or breeding practices, inadequate pasture. or housing, seed selection, or fertilization. Then they are ready to correct their mistakes and continue good practices, so far as their following vear’s plans are concerned.
