CATTLE , Its tiro* to cull the herd and get those cows to market.For the last four years, cow prices have peaked in May. Last week Virginia auc, tions dropped off 50 cents, their first decrease in weeks. Chicago dropped off 25 cent last week and a dollar tjhe week before. .The seasonal drop probably won’t be as severe as usual though. Cattlemen, are holding cows back as breeding stock on the one hand, and supplies of hamburger and similar meat items are getting short. } I. , . . Cows averaged $181 in Virginia auctions last week, and about $19 in Chicago. This is the time to sell vealers too. Veal prices almost always bottom in June. This year the general high level of cattle prices has held them up longer than usual, but Virginia auctions dropped off $1.75 last week. - I Choice and prime vealers brought $3130 with good grade going at $29.
