John Kelly Updike, son of Mr. , and Mrs? John Updik« of Washington, Va., was among the 1075 students to receive degrees at. V.P. I. Sunday, June 8 in-the Annual Commencement Exercise. He was also among those Commissioned as 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. i . Air* Force in the Commissioning - exercise,on Saturday, June 7.
After graduation, he has accepted a position as Assistant County Agent in Shenandoah Co- ; unty until '59 when he will go on active duty *vith the Air Force.'
While at V, P. I., Updike ma1 jored in Animal Husbandry. He ( was a member of the- College ' Livestock judging team, Block and Bridle Club 4H Alumni Club * Agricultural Exposition, “The TV' chnique” (Agricultural Publications,) apd Baptist Students Union.

It is being held tffis year at Dick Miller’s lot.on highway 211 just South of town. Friday night they will have their Firemens parade - at 6:30.^ The Ladies Auxiliary ■, will serve a cold plate supper. Bring your family out for a good, ■ ,< meal and help suspqrt your Fire Dept, at die same time. There will be lot of rides for the kiddies and grown ups too, to highlight Wie activity for three full evenings. - .
