Not long ago, 1 happened to see*'a play in which one of the ac- * tort portrayed a man who had spent most of his life outdoors exposed to /wind and sun- -As he strode back and forth across the Stage, he was a strikingly handsome man with what seemed to be „a oone-deep sun tan. It was quite a-shock, therefore, to pass him on . the street a few days later and see, that his face was as white as a sheet of clean paper. That deep tan had been only make-up. * The truth is that a tan .can’t be manufactured or faked or created by our efforts.. It comes only through time, patience and constant exposure ter the sun. Actually a tan i» a gift of Hhc *un freely given to anyone who seeks it. <
So it is with holiness. Often times people think of holiness as some quality which you and I acquire by our own efforts. They think that by constantly examining ourselves and by working diligently -on our'moral character', we can one day become holy and fit tf> Stand before God. They talk as if
