the process of becoming holy and of aeeing God is something like a boy climbing agonizingly hard over hand up a rope so that when die top is reached, he may lookover the fence and see the ball game.
But this is not how Christianity understands holiness. Christian holiness is a gift of God the Holy Spirit. It comes slowly as we expose more and more of our daily life to His influence. It grows through prayer, through worship, through Bible study and meditation, through, a conscious awareness of living in the Presence of The ■Holy God. It is not our own holiness that gradually, comes into view; it is the holiness of Christ Who dwells in' His people. St, Paul said it1 best when he wrote the Corinthian Christians, “All of us who are Christians reflect like mirtors the glory of the Lord. We are transfigured by the Spirit of the Lord in eyer-increasing splendor into His own image.” The holiness of Christ is a gift freely given ta all who seek it and who are willing to expose themselves to Him.
