Hounds hunted from The Hill over Conor Yates fields into Welly K. Hopkins' Rest Harrow farm then over to the Baldwin woods for approximately three hours. They scouted the soggy terraine in workmanlike fashion, but to very little avail. It was apparent that the foxes had less enthusiasm andl perhaps more sense than the hunters, for these denizens of Culpeper County stayed |“in the bed" and wouldn't budge.) j
The most exciting moment of the: morning was a , race after a loose horse. During a check, Mich-. ael Nelson’s stocky little chestnut decided to “waller", i Like a flash he was down; like a flash Michael stepped off. Then away galloped the chestnut with thane, tail and stirrup leathers flying. A groom in the field, named “Blinky”, a circus rider by temperament and talent, dashed after him, jumped from his own horse Onto Michael’s and brought a surprised and chastened little mount right back
Wet and chill that had deeply penetrated the hunters, disappeared but Quickly, with the warmth, good victuals and [hospitality of our hunt breakfast host and hostess, Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Durant, II. At least fifty foxhound-minded guests besides the horse hunters enjoyed the Valentine’s Day party.
The Durants had several house guests from Pennsylvania, among them Mrs. William H. Carson, wellknown for her, f uccessful showing at the Devon Horse’ Sihow. She allowed! that she thoroughly enjoyed tjhe day even though it was horsie rather than a fox that provided the race.
