For Point-toPoint
This year the Rappahannock Hunt Point-To-Point, starting at 12:30 p.m., March 7, at Thornton Hill Farm, promises to be a colorful and entertaining affair. The first race scheduled for Draft Horses ,•» a iare old-fashioned event, entries in»ariably being aged and individualistic, to say the least, in their style of flat racing .
Three junior races follow, each l/j-mile on the flat: the first two r.re for ponies, the last for horses over 14.2 hds. All entries must have been regularly hunted.
The fifth race, the Mt. Salem, for ladies, has become one of the e::citing events of tthe Virginia Point-to-Pbint calendar. 'The next two are gentlemen’s races, to be ridden in full hunting attire: one for riders of 175 lbs. min. wt.; one for riders of 200 lbs. Following these is the Mary D. Slaughter Memorial, open to professional riders and hurdle horsei as well as regularly hunted horses, It is a fast 3-mile event that offers considerable prestige to the winner.
The last horse and pony race is a 2-mile hurdle race for riders who have not readied their 18th birthday.
The finale is the Hound Race, in charge of A- Lawton Blankenbaker and Clifton Clark, for all hound owners in tthe Rappahannock Hunt Territory .
No eptrX-faK are asjxdjor^and. post entries are accepted. Lunch will be served by members of the Rappahannock Hunt. As an added attraction, a tiny jack burro, named Tally-Ho-Hum, will be given to some lucky person. With these ten events, the Rappahannock Hunt provides the most varied and the biggest program of the 1959 Point-to-Point circuit. General admission is $1.00.
METHODIST SPONSOR BIRTHDAY DINNER
The Washington Methodist ChiTrch will sponsor a George Washington’s Birthday Dinner on Friday, February 20 at the Bromfiejd Parish Hall beginning at 5 p.m. The menu will consist of roast beef, mashed potatoes,* green peas, tossed salad or slaw, home made rolls and pie. The dinnei will be served cafeteria style and is $1.25 per plate.
