TURKEYS

There’s not much chance for price strengthening on Turkeys with the terrific supply of light breeds on hand for July when the price usually hits bottom anyway. But the outlook for heavies for later in the year looks a bit brighter_with supplies falling below last gear’s level by Christmas.

July supplies of Beltsville, based on hatchings, are running 53 per cent more for the month compared to a year earlier_that means around 13 million pounds against 81/2 million pounds.

In November the supply of heavy breeds will be down to approximately three per cent over last year and four per cent under in December.

In Virginia this week light type turkeys were bringing 21 cents a pounds and the heavy type hens 23 cents a pound. *
