Hurtke halt said that aha baa asked Cantor to debate her. and wilt continue to seek a public forum to debate these issues with the congressman. Ruy Allan, a spokesman tor Cantor's campaign, cnllotl these "political stunts" ami aaid the congressman dors n't intend to participate in what ha said were essentially political rallies tor Hartke.
However Hurtke feels she has no other way of engaging Cantor or getting her message across to voter*. Hurtke entered the race late, and has not been able to raise money effec tively.
At the other end of the spectrum. Cantor was asked why he needed to raise so much money Cantor has raised over $U.r> million this year (2007-08) compared to Hartke'* $58,000. His response was that it takes a lot of money to get a message out to vot - ers.
As to the lack of GOP success in Virginia lately, Cantor said, “I don’t think Virginia has moved from center right" and reiterated the lack of effective communication on the purt of the OOP. "Most people are working to make it nil happen," he said of families trying to get by in this economy. "Most people don’t have time to get involved in partisan rancor."
