You may recall receiving a ques tionnaire in 1955 from the Virginia Methodist Advocate on this subject. I presume you have heard that your paper is one of only 25 weekly newspapers out of a total of 104 pub lished in Virginia that refuses all liquor ads. We are so glad that The Farmville Herald is one of the 25— j but there should be more. Of 32 j dailies in Virginia, only six refuse all liquor ads. "It’s a fact that two-thirds of to- j day's alcoholics began drinking: I while of high school age." This is the information given on a poster ; prepared by the Methodist Board of Temperance. I feel that all Christian people should work toward the elimination ! of all liquor advertising because of ; the injurious effects of beverage al ! cohol on health and character. The ! press, radio and television are pow erful influences in molding public ! opinion, particularly that of youth, towards the use of beverage alcohol. Have you heard of the bills in Congress to prohibit transportation of alcoholic beverage advertising in interstate commerce and over the air?
