The Sperryville 4-H girls went on a weiner roast Thursday evening at the home of their leader, Mrs. George Taylor. She entertained both 4-H, groups at' Sperryville. Girls attending were Betty Johnson, Millie Sisk, Elsie .Mae Jenkins, Mary Eubank, Janet .. ^ Jo*n Scott, Caroletta Gough, Floreaar Atkins, Esther Mae Pullen, Carolyn ’Turner, Mary Dodson, Eleanor Jen* kins, Jane Nicholas, Mildred Maney, and Jean Cornell. * ‘ At the home of Mrs. John Wood-" ward’s, Mrs. Colleen Collett, home economist for Northern Virginia Power Co., demonstrated to Castleton H. D. members Tuesday, the principles involved in electri fying ker- ~ osene lamps, vases, and bottles." She recommended in her demonstration that homemakers use “bulbs with the built in shade," and bulbs frosted on the outside in ceiling fixtures. In table lamps‘and floor lamps a different bowl and indirect light bulb were recommended. Later in the meeting the members each made a lamp.
The members welcomed Mrs. Acrey Dodson, as a new member. Potatoes are certainly hard to get smd expensive. This brings up the question of other foods to serve with main dishes for variety in the menu. ■ Beans and corn offer many tempting variations for example chilli concame pork and beans. Dried beans are plentiful and a thrifty buy. Many cereal foods are good to accompany your meat. For examplechicken or meat served with noodles or rice; creamed chicken with biscuits, on waffles; chicken and dumplings; macroni with cheese or meat soalloped ^spagetti and ‘meat balls with spicy tomato sauce. Pinch hitters for potatoes also may be the many different stuffings for poultry or fish. Mrs. Peggy Miller said they were especially enjoying stuf fed baked fish.
