In the summer of 1941 around 30 Rappahannock Apple GrowersT combined forces to seek a solution' to an age-old problem. Agreed, \ there status had improved since) the introduction of the series of packing sheds into the county. But there yet remained a problem which, though seemingly small, in, the period of a season reached alarming stature. This was the problem involving a fruit that is high in quality, but small in size. The smallness would eliminate it from marketing through the regular packing sheds and too it would bring the owner a very low price on the fresh market. Naturally the fruit grower would take a loss—a hammering one.
In this and successive meetings was born the idea of an Apple; Juice Plant, wherein these apples would be consumed and the losses would be turned, eventually, into profits.
