I he warren-KappanannocK a CA Division meeting will be held in the Sperryville Elementary School on April 13th, from 10 a..,' m. to 2 p. m. It is hoped that dele* gates from all the Elementary schools in Warren and Rappahannock counties will attend. We shall also be very pleased if representatives from all the PTA organizations in the county will attend this meeting It has been said that the PTA is the mother of the SCA. Tire SCA is for students.
It is of local interest that the first student organization of the SCA,(Student Cooperative Asm*. ciation)in Virginia was started in the Alberine High School in Albemarle County, Va. when Thomas Slater Settle (of Flint Hill) was principal of die ad—1.
It was called the Junior Community League. The adult organizations were then the Community Leagues. In 1933 many community leagues changed their name to1 Parent Teacher Association and in 1937 the name of the. Junior League was changed to Student Cooperative Association, (SCA). The work of the SCA is' financed entirely by the Virginia Congress of Parents and Teachers and through local SCA dues.
Why have we worked for SCA?
1— The SCA provides a good opportunity, for students to learn to be good leaden and , active group members. • ' -
2— The SCA gives students experience in taking responsibilities for important work in the school . and community. It shows that each person can do something to help the school and the neighborhood.
3— It is a way of tying together the many different kinds of work, campaigns, and other activities within the school.
Lucy A. String fellow
Hiss (Lucy Ann Stringfellow, age SI, died Sunday night at her home in Culpeper, following a lingering illness.
A daughter of the late Bruce W. and Sarah Broadus Stringfellow, Miss Stringfellow was born at Ashleigh, the family home in Culpeper County.
“Miss Lucy” a life-long Baptist, had many friends in Rappahannock County, gained when she-at-: tended the Shiloh Association meetings here. Before her illness she made frequent visits to the local print shop, operated by her niece end nephew.'
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at S o’clock from the home, with the Reverend W. F, Cale and Dr. J. T. Edwards conducting the services. Burial was in the Fairview Cemetery.
Miss Stringfellow is survived by a sister, Mrs. Felix Maddox, ef EBnrood, a brother, Brace W. Stringfellow of Culpeper, and a number of nieces end nephews.
